Using Tegaderm

Your artist will apply your Tegaderm at the end of your tattoo appointment. It is normal for fluid to collect under the bandage. Tagaderm can be worn for up to 4 days. After 4 days remove and wash twice a day and moisturize as needed with non scented products.

Application Tips:

For maximum comfort ensure skin is in a neutral position when applying Tegaderm. When minimal bleeding occurs ( line work, etc.) you may apply a small amount of lotion or ointment directly on the tattoo before applying Tegaderm to prevent adhesion to the tattoo. For large areas, pieces of Tegaderm may be overlapped by 1/2 inch (1 cm).

Do not use Tegaderm if you have allergies to adhesives.

Please ensure that all lotions and soaps are fragrance free.

Fashioned way

Your artist will apply a bandage made of medical tape and seran wrap at the end of your appointment. You are meant to remove this bandage after 24 hours.  When you do, wash your hands then clean your new tattoo and the surrounding skin with antimicrobial soap then gently pat dry. 

You do not need to re-wrap the tattoo at this point, let it breathe but stay mindful as it is a wound and susceptible to infection.  Avoid direct sunlight, abrasive clothing, pet hair, brushing against couches/chairs/used bedsheets/etc, tanning beds, pool/ocean/lake water, etc.   

Gently wash your tattoo area several times a day with soap and water and gently pat dry.  Ensure you remove all the soap after each application, liquid soap is best because bacteria can be left on a soap bar.

Apply a thin layer of moisturizer or ointment after the tattoo has been washed and dried.  Keep the application minimal, if there is any excess after 5 minutes of allowing the ointment to soak in there is too much on the skin and you may want to blot it off with a paper towel.  

For the first two nights, before bed please gently clean, dry, and moisturize your tattoo and wrap the tattoo using saran wrap and medical tape.  If you are allergic to adhesives please only use the tape on top of the saran wrap to secure it.
